Fighting Class Differences

Fighting Class Differences

I felt really sad while watching this video.

We pledge to be “one united people regardless of race, language and religion” and to “achieve happiness, prosperity and progress.”

We cannot afford to have a class difference breeding in our psyche and in any quarter of society.

In line with the Singapore Way, key stakeholders from the public, people, private and political sectors should join hands to tackle this challenge urgently.

Take a multidimensional, multifaceted, and multidisciplinary approach to elimate negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors about socioeconomic classes.

Adopt a top-down, peer-to-peer, and bottom-up approach to eventually eradicate unhealthy prejudice and discrimination.

Let’s stop this societal plague right from the young.

There is a common saying that “Inequality starts at birth.”

For us to achieve “progress for our nation,” we need to eradicate such an inequality, especially for children of divorced parents and from troubled homes.

Ensure that these vulnerable children are not directly or indirectly disadvantaged because of their parents’ decisions and behaviors.

Promote a healthy childhood experience and environment so as to enhance their socio-emotional, cognitive and linguistic developments.

To remove toxic class differences, it starts with each and every one of us.

Together, let’s extend more love, empathy, kindness and compassion to the people around us.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
