I Love Singapore

Today, I join fellow citizens to celebrate the 47th birthday of our country.

Today, I am mindful that upon this land, my heart beats. I smell the air that carries the beauty of life.

Today, my eyes can look far and wide and know freedom is my birthright. I can hear the sounds that reflect the contributions of every Singaporean.

Today, I am reminded that this beautiful country did not happen by chance. Its history flows torrents of blood, sweat and tears.

Today, I salute our forefathers who toiled and labour to build this nation. They build Singapore, brick by brick, mortar by mortar so that I can live in peace and find my place under the sun.

Today, I affirm my conviction that there is no other place I want to be than the Lion City. I will fly our flag high and when my time is up, I will pass it to my children and inspire them to blaze a trail of glory.

Today, the five stars hang with pride in my heart. The crescent that rose from murky past shines brightly in my soul.

Today, my spirit overwhelms with red and white for the country we call home.

Today, my every being burst forth with pride and joy for my homeland, a country that is widely admired and respected all over the world

Today, I can feel confidence because Singapore stands for opportunities. No matter where I came from, I can press on to my destination. Whatever my setback, I can rise to attain any height.

Today, deep in my heart, I believe there is no better place to be alive than right here, right now.

Today, I can dream and turn my dream into a reality. I can do whatever I need to do. I can enjoy whatever I need to enjoy. I can achieve whatever I need to achieve. All these because I am a Singaporean.

Today, my heart says this is the place I was born. This is the place I will die. Between cradle and grave, this is the place I will seek to fulfill my highest calling and serve the worthiest cause.

Today, I want the world to know this small bright red dot can make things happen for any person regardless of creed, custom and culture.

Today, I pledge as a retired soldier that when the bugle calls; and I pray it will never happen, I will respond. I will shed my last blood to defend the values that bind all of us. I will fight till my last breath to preserve our boundary of ideals.

Today, I stand prepared to defend the people who made this country great and the citizens who are a part of my extended family.  I will fight for the rights of my motherland.

Singapore is like a beautiful symphony. Every one of us must play our part to bring forth the beautiful music, a masterpiece for the world to enjoy and for the generations to come.
