Living Moments (Part 6)

by Patrick Liew on December 13, 2011

I couldn’t help overhearing a telephone conversation while going up the plane. The young man standing behind me was clearly giving last minute instructions to his subordinate.

“I want to hire an engineering graduate. It does not matter what discipline he comes from – electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or whatever.

“I don’t even mind taking in somebody with a degree in Computer Science – as long as he has an engineering mindset.”

The last two words strucked in my mind, ‘engineering mindset.’ It kept me thinking.

We are products of our profession. Somehow, our education and our working experience shaped the way we looked at life.

While our presupposition provides a frame of reference for us to understand the world around us, it also caves us to the possibilities for living a richer life.

Perhaps, in the new economy, we need to return back to another era, a time where the wise aimed to be a ‘Renaissance Man.’

We need to learn how to be a gracious person who is knowledgeable and proficient in all the major areas of life.

We need to revive the ideal and idea of living life to the fullest in the widest sense.

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.
