I have come to realise that my job in life is to create memories. Meaningful memories for people who come after me. Beautiful memories that hopefully will inspire them to rise up above the routine, the mundane and the ordinary.
In the process of planning for Learn-A-Thon 2011, I worked with one of the most dedicated, dynamic team of volunteers. There were creative ideas criss crossing the Internet on a daily basis – and sometimes, hourly (even right till 3AM).
Let me share one of them that started from Melissa. We set up what we called Banners of Love.
Without going into great details, through this experience, we sent our ‘hearts’ to our brothers and sisters suffering in the flood. In turn, we hope it will bring back more love, compassion and kindness to our hearts – always a great foundation for a healthier life.
Through Banners of Love, we also wanted to promote stronger relationships between Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Philippines.
We want to identify with the victims of the floods.
We wanted to cry when they cry. We want to laugh with them when sunshine returns and their land is dry again.
We want them to know that we care, that we are reaching out to them in our own small ways.
There is power in thoughts of love. More power when we pray. Alongside with prayer, we join hands to help the people around us. It is our hope that participants will discover that there is something magical within them. A treasure, a power to change the world:
Love.
Go4It!
I hope this message will find a place in your heart.
By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
