Thinking Out Of The Box

by Patrick Liew on June 15, 2011

Do you want to know how to stand out from the crowd and lead the field?

I spent a brief moment with one of my mentors, Richard Tan and that was enough to change another commonly-held belief.

He asked me, “Do you want to have a lot of customers or do you want to increase your profit? They may not necessarily mean the same thing”.

Richard is a walking inspiration. No wonder the Singapore Government awarded to him the Phoenix Award – and made him a model for the business world.

Richard is what I call a ‘zig-zag’ man. When others zig, he may not necessarily follow suit.

After due consideration, he may zag. And very often, he is right. He will create a new pathway and reach a new height.

Here are his many firsts: First to run a training programme at the Indoor Stadium, First to run a global multimedia e-learning company, First to run the largest seminar organizer in the world.

What I have learned the most from Richard is – When others say it cannot be done, ask yourself, “How can I make it come true?”

“How can I create something so distinctly different that it will stand out in the world?”

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

Life is FUNtastic!

Question: How can I think out of the box?
