Appreciating Teachers

by Patrick Liew on August 11, 2011

I am very much the results of teachers.

As I reflected on the teachers that have shaped and moulded me at different points in my life, I feel a deep sense of gratefulness.

Without them, I am nothing.

The teachers who taught me in schools gave me a foundation to make a living and to live well. They inspire me to learn so that I can continue to improve and progress in life.

There were also many other teachers who came into my life. They may not teach as a profession or even earn an income from it, but they have played a vital and important part in my life.

Teachers opened my door to new worlds.

They showed me different possibilities to a brighter future.

I am indebted to every teacher in my life.

In Singapore, we celebrate Teacher’s Day every year on the First of September. It may be a different date in other countries.

This year, I am happy that I am taking a teacher out for a meal. I will also be attending the birthday celebration of a man who taught me and helped me during one of the most challenging periods of my life.

I will also be participating in a gathering for some of my teachers.

I have also made a small contribution to my former school for its Teachers’ Day Celebration.

Let’s remember and appreciate our teachers.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.

Question: How can we better appreciate our teachers?
