Living A FUNtastic Life (Part 6)

by Patrick Liew on July 24, 2011

During my HSR Leadership Bootcamps, I deliberately asked the participants to revisit the most unpleasant moments in their lives.

Interestingly, it was many of such experiences that had caused them to make the most changes in their lives – and usually, it was when the experience was over.

When I reflected on the darkest moments in my life, I realized it was during those periods that I was able to achieve major breakthroughs.

I did it even though I was supposed to go through a roller coaster of negative emotions.

I used the words, ‘supposed to’ because I have found a way to prevent myself from being sucked into a dark hole of negative feelings.

It’s call – Gratefulness.

Even in the worst of times, I learned to be grateful for the infinite amount of blessings in my life. Let me share some of them with you.

Blessings. Every morning, I am thankful when I wake up. I am given the most precious gift – life.

I am grateful for many wonderful things around me – many of which are not available to many people in the world.

If I need to compare with anybody – although it is not a healthy practice – I will compare the blessings I have instead of the blessings I don’t have.

I praise our Creator for some of the most important gifts – health, time, family, home, friendships, nature, peace… the list goes on.

Beauty. There are so much beauty and even magic around me. I’m in awe of them.

For example, I loved looking at trees and flowers.

Clouds mesmerize me.

Since national service days, I have learned to appreciate nature, animals, and the vastness of this universe.

Appreciation. When I reflected on what happened in a day, I realized our Creator has sent many angels to help me. Sometimes, they are not known to me.

They can come in the form of a stranger, an event, an experience, or something out of the blue.

All these experiences enrich my life and made me a better person. They lift me up to a higher plane in life.

Silver Linings. When I go through a failure, rejection, or any other negative experience, I can still find many things to be grateful and thankful for.

These experiences can be useful feedback, lessons, and opportunities for improvements.

If I search for the positives, I will find an infinite amount of positiveness even in the worst situation.

Being Still. I have learned there are tremendous amount of joy when I learned to be still and just enjoy the moment.

Be in awe over the design of a flower.

Wonder at the beauty of an insect.

Be lifted up by just looking at a child…

When I lift up my heart in gratefulness, I realize I’m wealthy beyond any measure. I’m blessed beyond any imagination.

Infinity. I joined the Psalmist to praise our Creator because He takes a special interest in me.

Think about it – there is an abundance of unlimited wealth for us.

The vastness of space, time and history… the infinite extent of possibilities… the incomprehensible width and depth of positive emotions…

Our Creator has placed the understanding of infinity within our mind and our grasp. Wow!

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.

Question:  How many more ways can we enhance our gratefulness?
