Living A FUNtastic Life (Part 16)

by Patrick Liew on August 22, 2011

Since 1972, I have volunteered in professional, civic, charity and religious bodies. I believe it has made me a more complete person.

In the process of contributing to a good cause, I have found out that many volunteers are happy people.  While observing them, I realized there are some major factors that enhanced their happiness quotient.

Happy people who are involved in social contribution do so in their own free will. They choose the cause they are passionate about and love to be involved in.

These people volunteer their services because they want to help others, and not because of their own self-interests.

They will not force themselves to help people who refuse their help.

In addition, they choose to contribute to the work that can make full use of their talents and strengths.

Happy people will not overwork themselves to a point where they bring more stress to their lives. They have a healthy balance between their social contributions and other areas of their lives.

Practicing acts of kindness can be done at anywhere, anytime and in different ways.

It doesn’t need a lot of time, talent, money or energy. It does not have to be difficult, time-consuming or grand.

There’s no need to volunteer only in major organizations or causes.

Acts of kindness can be performed for my family members, relatives, neighbors, colleagues or friends.

A kind word, pat on the back, short note of appreciation, small donation, words of encouragement, smile, positive conversations… these are many things I can do in the span of a day.

Look around you. There is somebody who needs an act of kindness from you.

There are infinite numbers of ways to brighten up our world and our lives at the same time.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.

Life is FUNtastic!

Question:  How can we perform acts of kindness on a daily basis?
