Enjoying Job Satisfaction (Part 6)

by Patrick Liew on October 31, 2011

There are moments in my working life when I felt down.

I faced a stronger ‘push’ factor to leave the company and the pull factor is also tempting because as always, the ‘grass looks greener on the other side of the fence.’

In such times, I always remind myself there are no perfect companies. Even the best company can turn bad.

In addition, as they say, even if I can find the perfect company, it won’t be perfect anymore – because of me.

I’m mindful of the fact that only I can decide to enjoy job satisfaction. I can make it happen.

Together with our Creator, I can work on my attitude, mindset and workstyle.

There are three key areas that I can focus on.

a.       Look At The Doughnut, And Not The Hole

I learned to look out for the positives around me. I accentuate the positives and eliminate the unnecessary negatives.

When I do that, I will always find things to be happy about and to have a greater sense of satisfaction.

I also hold on to the belief that with the help of our Creator, I can change the company, my bosses, and the work environment.

I take my job as a learning challenge. It is also a calling for me to turn the company into a force for good.

b.      Take Control Of The Situation – And Not Let The Situation Take Control Of Me

Even if I do not have the authority, responsibility or resources, I believe I can make things happen.

Through informal communications, I can improve relationships and build teamwork. I can also work with my colleagues to turn our workplace into a better place.

I can improve my capacity and capability so as to make better changes to my company.

It is always a joy when I can slowly and gradually influence the working environment.

c.       Develop Win-Win Relationships – And Not Win-Lose/ Lose-Lose Relationships

I do not have to subscribe to and accept lose-lose or win-lose relationships in the company.

I can work towards building win-win culture and relationships.

To me, it is my calling to effect positive changes and make lasting impact in the office. This sense of mission inspires me and motivates me to make something good out of my life and the company.

I have within my hands the power of choice. When I exercise it, I can turn the dream of having a healthy working life into a reality.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
