Getting Involved With Public Affairs Involved With Public Affairs

by Patrick Liew on June 15, 2011

Let’s not rely totally on the government to do everything for us. We must do our part to help our government.

When I was young, my grandmother told our family, “None of us should get involved in politics.”

She came to this conclusion because my uncle was a “general” in the Kuomingtang army. After losing the war in China, he had to escape to South East Asia.

My father and him had to change their names to ensure that they cannot be tracked. The whole episode put our family into a lot of trouble.

As a child, we were not even allowed to step into a community centre.

We stayed away from politics and even anything that seemed political in nature. I have also tried to avoid any forms of politicking in any organisation that I was involved in.

My friend, Alastair Tong also advised me to keep ‘politics’ out of my fb.

I have been thinking and I am still thinking, “If I don’t do my part to provide feedback to the government, am I being responsible?”

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

Life is FUNtastic!

Question: Should I post my ‘political’ views on fb? How can we contribute to help the government build a better future for us?
