I went overseas on a day trip at the request of my customer. After the usual small talk, he turned to me and asked, “Can you lower your professional fees?”
Before he could even finished the question, I immediatel…y replied, “No”. I gave him my short but well-scripted response on why I’m giving him good value for money.
What he said to me at the end of my explanation almost caused me to fall off my chair. He said, “I thought so” and he changed the subject after that.
As an entrepreneur, I have come to realize that I should always deliver the best solution to the customer and at the best value. That is the best way to justify my fees.
I need to learn how to be assertive and to stand firm on my proposal – unless there are justifiable reasons to make any changes. If I cannot convince the customers about my fees, chances are, I will not be able to negotiate effectively for them.
I will not be able to protect their best interests and achieve optimal returns for their real estate transactions.
Negotiation is one of the core skills in business as well as in life. The more skillful I am in negotiation, the faster I achieve my pursuits.
I hope this message will find a place in your heart.
By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
