Self-Help

by Patrick Liew on May 23, 2014

One of the first self-help books written way back in the 1800s is entitled, drum roll please…, Self-Help.

It was written by Samuel Smiles, a government reformer in Britain.

Like most self-help books, Self-Help is laden with rags-to-riches stories.

These go-getters and achievers, according to Smiles, had a common quality.

Guess what it is? Drum roll please…It is…

…Hard work.

In the book, Smiles extol the virtues of good work ethics and diligence.

He adviced everybody who wanted to be successful to rise early, keep your head down, and work, work, work.

Does it still work today?

Go4It!

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
