The World Lost Another Great Leader – Mrs Margaret Thatcher.

by Patrick Liew on April 9, 2013

Mrs Margaret Thatcher passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Tuesday morning, 9 April 2013.   Her health has been on the decline for some years, suffering from dementia and a series of mini-strokes in 2002.

The “Iron Lady” was one of the most influential leaders who helped to reinvent Britain. She also made an indelible impact on the Western world during the post-war period.

As the Prime Minister for 11 years (4 May 1979 – 28 November 1990), she transformed the British economy, restructured the welfare state, broke strongholds of the labour unions, and promoted free economy and personal responsibility.

Her positive rapport with former President of the USA President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, coupled with her proactive foreign policy played an important part in ending the Cold War.

I will always remember her as a great leader with a helicopter view of the aspirations for her country. She was brave and determined, unwilling to compromise or be distracted by detractors and even the masses.

With a bright mind and strong communication skills, she led  the government to craft ground-breaking policies. She was also fiercely focused on ensuring that they are effectively implemented.

Under her leadership, she brought back a great degree of pride and confidence to her country.
