A Time For Reflection.

by Patrick Liew on December 18, 2013

This is the time of the year for reflection.

A time to take stock of where you came from, why you are here, and where you are heading to.

I will also be taking time off to think about my life. To do that, I plan to temporarily move away from my usual circle of friends and activities.

If need be, I will shut myself away from the modern world. I may not be using any modern communication facilities.

No more calls on the hand phone. No emails. No WhatsApp. No Facebook. No blogs. No tweeters. No websites.

All forms of communication may be shut down.

I need to fast from all these facilities so as to face our Creator and face myself.

I want to do it without any dilution of my effort and distraction from my reflection.

I want my life back. Lol!

When my mind is clear about what I want in my life, such clarity will bring about magic.

I will never get older in the past or younger in the future. Therefore, I do not want to waste any moment of my life on earth.

Rene Descartes was famously quoted for the philosophical statement, “Cogito ergo sum. ”

It means, I think. Therefore, I am.

I like to rephrase these words as “Consulo ergo sum” and apply them in a different context.

It means, I reflect. Therefore, I am.

I have learned a long time ago that I am not smart. When my mind is unclear, I need to reflect and pen my thoughts.

Sometimes, I wonder if the words that flow from my keypad are crafted by my mind or is my mind shaped by my words. I suppose it’s a combination of both factors.

As I reflect, my mind will sort out my thoughts and my thoughts will sort out my mind.

It will help me to formulate new vision, new ideas, and new action.

Through reflection, I have been able to re-think past experiences and their significance to me.

I have learned that all of them happened for a reason and purpose. They are vital in their own ways and they add  new meanings to my life.

Experiences are like lamp posts. They help me to travel through the highways and byways  of life.

These experiences include the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Looking back, some of the most painful experiences were some of the best learning experiences and turning points in my life.

Critical self-reflection is one of the best ways for me to learn and improve. It helps me to change myself and get better results.

In the process of reflection, I also go
through a healing process. I come to terms with past events.

It brings peace to my heart and help me reach out to others who are undergoing similar situations and challenges.

As I reflect upon my daily affairs, I realize that miracles happen every day – if only I look out for them and are mindful about their existence.

I become more grateful to our Creator for being alive. I’m thankful for all the beautiful moments that add colour and spices to the tapestry of life.

So, my friends, we will chat again.

Meanwhile, have a blessed Christmas and the best year ahead!
