A Tribute To The Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, One Of Our Founding Fathers

On 23 March 2015, my spirit was crushed.

My heart sunk to a deep and darkness.

Our Founding Father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew left us. Gone forever.

We will not hear his words anymore and see him again.

I’m at a loss for the right words to pay tribute to him.

What words can be used to convey our love for a man who has given his whole life for us.

What words can be used to mourn a great loss for you, for me and my family, and for Singapore.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew once said, “At the end of the day, what have I got? A successful Singapore.

“What have I given up?

“My life.”

What words can be used to celebrate his spirit of purpose, his sacrifices, his determination, and his achievements.

I read in the newspaper that he was working with his red box until the 4th of February 2015.

The red box was a briefcase for his work. It contained materials of his project at any time.

He gave himself to Singapore and worked right till the very last day, the day before he was admitted into the hospital.

Today we are proud to say, “I am a Singaporean” partly because of him.

We can hold our red passport with pride and joy.

It’s a symbol of admiration all over the world because of what he and his team has done for us.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew spent his life promoting unity in this country.

In his death, the unity was demonstrated by tens of thousands, regardless of race, language or religion.

They queued hours after hours to see him for the last time.

They queued under the hot sun, many with no consideration for food and water.

They queued to show their love, their gratitude, and their admiration for him.

In his death, we saw many Singaporeans uniting ourselves as One Nation. One people. One Singapore.

A heavy curtain has fallen.

The candle flame gone.

A melody has turned into silence.

The baton has been passed to all of us.

In Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s words about Singapore:

“This is not a game of cards. This is your life and mine.

“I’ve spent a whole lifetime building this and as long as I’m in charge, nobody is going to knock it down…”

Yes Sir!

A new chapter has begun…

Together, we can, we should, and we must make sure that nobody, and I mean nobody can ever knock down our shining little red dot.

Together, we will create a better dream.

Rise up again and again.

Overcome the challenges ahead of us.

Fight on and on.

And create a better future for our children and children’s children.

I think that’s how Mr Lee wanted us to remember him.

That’s how we can honour his legacy.

Farewell Sir.

We will not have you anymore in our midst but you live on in our heart.

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.
