Designing Your Business Model

by Patrick Liew on February 26, 2012

A friend asked some of us how to grow his business. This was my suggestion.

First, the Heartware, what do your company and you want, believe in, and stand for? Nobody can advice you and make you do what you don’t want.

Secondly, the Hardware. You cannot grow beyond your capacity, ability n tenacity. The volume of water in a cup cannot be bigger than what it can contain.

Hardware includes your biz model, distinctive value proposition, business space, structure, systems, processes, network n other resources, including the leader/s. For example, you can be the single biggest platform or pitfall for success.

Thirdly, Software. All businessses are ultimately people businesses. It will only work if you hv the right number of the right talents to do the right jobs n in the right ways – individually n collectively. The quality of your business is dependent on the quality of your people n teamwark.

Last but not least, Soulware or Spiritualware. If you serve a higher calling n worthier cause, you will draw more people n attract more resources to you.

Steve Jobs did not just sell technology. He wanted to change the world by aiming to put Microsoft on every office table. What does your company aims to touch?
