Today is the Dōngzhì Festival or Winter Solstice Festival (冬至).
It is one of the major Chinese festivals, and it is celebrated in preparation for the start of the winter.
Traditionally, most working folks would finish work early and go home to join their family for a lavish feast.
The feast usually includes “Dang Yuan,” a sweet dessert with colored balls made of sticky rice.
The “Dang Yuan” is used as a symbol for reunion.
I remember helping my grandmother when I was a kid to prepare for the “Dang Yuan.”
Subsequently, we had lots of fun as we ate and enjoyed the dessert together.
To some Chinese, after celebrating the Dōngzhì Festival and eating the festive food, the celebrators are one year older.
They should improve themselves and live a better life in the following twelve month.
May I take this opportunity to wish everybody the beginning of another better experience in lifelong learning, improvement, and achieving of better results.
