Tribute to Stephen Hawking, An Inspirational Genius
On June 15, 2018, many people will gather at Westminster Abbey in London to attend a thanksgiving service in memory of Professor Stephen Hawking, a British physicist and an inspirational genius.
He left us on March 14, 2018, but his influence and legacy will last beyond our lifetimes.
As one of the top and best-known physicists in the world, he was known to be friendly and humble, and modest about his achievements.
I remember reading his book, “A Brief History of Time”, a surprising best-seller and was captivated by his studies of space, black holes, and quantum theory.
Like many others, I would have no interest in such dry subjects if not for Hawking.
He inspired the world in so many different ways.
At a young age of 21, he was stricken with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a crippling illness and was told that he would live for only a few years.
Hawking locked horns with death and won the battle for the next 55 years. This was quite an amazing feat.
The debilitating motor neuron disease confined him to a wheel chair but he freed his mind to explore the future.
He was physically challenged but nothing can hold his spirit back.
He went beyond his problems to solve problems that has to do with the universe.
Although he cannot speak except through his trademark voice synthesizer, he used the power of the printed words to influence millions to become fascinated with scientific inquiry and pursuit of knowledge.
He was almost completely paralyzed and yet, he was able to reach out to people from all over the world and inspire them to unravel the mysteries of the smallest particles.
Hawking is a model of the power of the human spirit to battle all setbacks to achieve purposeful successes.
He demonstrated to us that we are only limited by our lack of dreams, imaginations and actions.
He showed to us that we can go beyond trivial pursuits to create a legacy that can make a positive impact on lives.
