Confronting Fear

by Patrick Liew on June 30, 2011

If you want to watch a good movie, I recommend ‘The Green Lantern’.

It is action-packed, fun and entertaining. There are also good learning take-aways from the movie. It is not just a movie about good versus evil, but also fear versus fearlessness.

There is essentially nothing wrong with fear. If we don’t have this emotion, we will never, for example, learn to respect fire.

In the movie, when one of the Guardians was overwhelmed by fear, he became demonized.

It could also happen to any one of us – maybe not demonized, but paralyzed.

They say, courage is not an absence of fear but the judgment that something is more important than fear. It is about taking action to triumph over fear.

The greatest fear is oftentimes fear itself. We must learn to embrace fear. We sometimes need to fight fear with fear. More importantly, we need to learn how to overcome fear to achieve breakthrough results.

Therefore, do not wish for less fear but for a stronger spirit to resolve it. For every fear we overcome, we also become a stronger and better person.

 Go4It!
