A Spirit of Humility

Two strings
One pulls apart
The other pulls low
One makes strong
The other makes happy
One divides
The other unites
One makes lofty
The other makes lowly
One snaps
The other stretches
One grabs
The other reaches

Pride is like the first string
The other humility
Humility lets you shine
When you let others shine
It is the quiet acknowledgment
Of strength and courage
It sees the best in others
While being secure of one’s own
It defines the true leader
Who moves others with inspiration.
Humility sets us free
From self-flattery and vain glory
It opens our minds and hearts
To true friendships and lasting relationships
In life no treasure is ever greater
Than living not for ourselves
But for others.
In forgetting we are remembered
In keeping low we are raised high.
In being humble we attract
Help from on High.

Be at peace with yourself
Set aside pride
Live in humility
And make your life more worthwhile.
For despite your worthy accomplishments
There shall always be someone better
From whom you can learn
Learning only comes from
The very first lesson of all lessons–
A humble heart.
