Facing Business Uncertainties

by Patrick Liew on November 10, 2011

In the new age of uncertainties, beset with a faster rate of change and business discontinuities, my concern is not for the known but for the unknown.

In addition, we will operate in a market that is at the same time global and local, competitive and collaborative, permanent and transient. Within the paradox of these seemingly discordant forces, we will need to find our profitable equilibrium.

To respond to the complex environment, the focus is not to respond to every challenge but to build a resilient model that can rise above any situation.

We need to establish an adaptable organisation with an able and agile workforce to capitalise on the winds of change.

Entrepreneurs must have the courage and capabilities to ‘destroy’ their business model and creatively reinvent themselves to stay relevant and effective.

We must continue to learn new ideas, competencies, and business practices.

Our organisation must be built on virtual, open and dynamic systems that will closely monitor the business environment and adapt to changes in the most productive way.

Ultimately, the mark of true leadership is the ability to seize destiny and design our own future.
