It’s Time For Reflection.

by Patrick Liew on December 23, 2016

This is the time of the year for reflection.

A time to take stock of where you came from, why you are here, and where you are heading to.

To reflect about and improve your life, you may need to temporarily move away from your usual circle of friends and activities.

If need be, shut yourself away from the modern world. Avoid using any modern communication facilities.

Fast from all these facilities so as to face our Creator and face yourself.

Reflect without any distraction and dilution of your effort.

When your mind is clear about what you want in your life, such clarity will bring about magic.

Be mindful that you’ll never get older in the past or younger in the future. Therefore, do not waste any moment of your life on earth right now.

Rene Descartes was famously quoted for the philosophical statement, “Cogito ergo sum. ”

It means, “I think. Therefore, I am.”

I like to rephrase these words as “Consulo ergo sum” and apply them in a different context.

It means, “I reflect. Therefore, I am” in Latin.

In the process of reflection, quieten your mind.

Seek out our Creator, the Ultimate Source of truth and wisdom.

Review your actions and any record of the way you have conducted your life.

Ask yourself deep and reflective questions and journal your responses and thought processes.

Critical self-reflection is one of the best ways for you to learn and improve. It helps you to change yourself and get better results.

As you reflect, your mind will sort out your thoughts and your thoughts will sort out your mind.

It will help you formulate new vision, new mindset, new ideas, and new actions.

Re-think past experiences and their significance to you.

All these experiences happened for a reason and purpose. They are vital in their own ways and they add new meanings to your life.

Experiences are like lamp posts. They inform you on how to travel throughout the highways and byways of life.

These experiences include the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Some of the most painful experiences can become some of the best learning experiences and turning points in your life.

In the process of reflection, you will also undergo a healing process. You will come to terms with your past.

It can bring peace to your heart and help you reach out to others who are undergoing similar situations and challenges.

Be mindful that miracles happen every day – if only you look out for them and are mindful about their existence.

You’ll become more grateful to our Creator for being alive. Become more thankful for all the beautiful moments that add colour and spices to the tapestry of life.

Have a blessed time and the best year ahead!
