I’ve known Kevin Grimes for a very long time.

Kevin is a man with absolute integrity, wisdom, competence and compassion.

He also has a passion and a calling on his life to help orphans around the world.

Although most would see the orphan crisis as overwhelmingly insurmountable (between 143 and 210 million orphans in the world), Kevin sees it as an opportunity to make differences in the lives of these precious children one-child-at-a-time.

From 2000 to 2013, Kevin was a licensed foster parent who fostered 24 teenage boys.

He adopted two of them.

In 2015 he learned about orphan hosting programs that bring orphans from developing countries to the USA during their summer and Christmas vacations.

He started hosting two children from Eastern Europe and most recently hosted five last Christmas.

He also volunteers several times each year at a group home for abandoned children called Hogar CIMA outside of Lima, Peru.

Most recently, he adopted a 14 year old boy from Bulgaria.

He is in the process of adopting a 13 year old from Latvia, as well as two brothers (ages 13 and 10) from Bulgaria.

Kevin reminds me of the parable of the boy and the starfish.

If you aren’t familiar with it, it is . . .

One day, an old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide.

As he walked he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one.

Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing.

Without looking up from his task, the boy simply replied, “I’m saving these starfish, Sir”.

The old man chuckled aloud, “Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?”

“The boy picked up a starfish, gently tossed it into the water and turning to the man, said, “I made a difference to that one!”

“If you cannot feed a hundred people, feed one. In this life we cannot always do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa

Life is infinitely full of opportunities to make a difference.

My friends, I encourage and challenge you to be a difference maker, and earnestly consider contributing to this fundraising campaign for these precious children!
