Living A FUNtastic Life (Part 30)

by Patrick Liew on September 11, 2011

Amongst my friends, some of them cheekily call me, “Russian.”

The reason is that I’m always on a rush. There is always a last minute meeting or a deadline to meet.

Still, I have been trying very hard to enjoy even the simplest things that I do, including the routine and mundane tasks.

I have discovered that when I relished and savoured every experience – no matter how insignificant it was – I became a happier person. I have lesser negative emotions and my mood improved.

This may mean nothing to you but it means a lot to me because I grew up with a melancholic temperament.

I used to have a strong tendency to see the darker side of life and could become pessimistic easily.

That’s why I developed a Power Walk ritual every morning. I tap on our Creator’s power to be mindful of and to enjoy every task, including ordinary ones throughout the day.

I don’t want to rush through the day – even though it does happen – and realize that I did not ‘smell the roses’ and enjoy the day.

I want to ‘carpe diem’ –seize every moment and see the good in it. I want to smile, laugh and have fun over the little pleasures in life.

I want to enjoy the warmth of the sun, feel the wind, and savour every breath.

I want to appreciate the beauty of the sky and admire every tree and plant – as they stand in their unique beauty to welcome me to a FUNtastic life.

I want to taste every morsel of food, and feel the plain water as it invigorates my lips and mouth, and go on its merry way to my stomach.

I want to smell every aroma – both good and not-so-good ones – and feel alive. I want to feel every feeling and enjoy every emotion and turn them into pleasant fuel to drive me to have a life of fun and vigor.

I want to feel my heartbeat and listen to the melody of my body, mind and emotion. I want to sing in tune with my being and raise it to a rousing climax as I synchronize with the symphony of nature.

I want to feel the heartbeat of every person I meet – and be present for them.

I endeavor to live, to love, to learn, to laugh, to launch every good deed, and leave a trail of beauty and wonder for others to enjoy more of life.

Every moment is beauty. Every little thing counts.

Even the simple things of life can be FUNtastic!

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.

Question: How can we enjoy the ordinary things of life?
