Praise to the Man

by Patrick Liew on August 25, 2015

Forego, forego

All that I am

That she may live

Singapura.

Praise to the man who freed this nation

Ending a dark era

Bringing light, warmth, and jubilation

Mr. Lee Kuan Yew,

On this dollop of a nation

Gathering valiant men and women
To build their home anew.

The red dot on the map

Like a drop of blood in the ocean

Rippled steadfast and on

From third world

To prosperity and rays of gold.

The ordinary man

Of extraordinary character

Bequeathed a life-long legacy

For you, for us, and for me.

Singapura,

We will never forget

The sacrifice, the trials, the service and love

From he who is now gone.

Today we walk the streets—Free!

Free from danger, free from fear

Free to be the best we can be

Free to enjoy the good life,

The greatest gift.

How can we repay you, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew?

Red, brotherhood and equality
White, pervading purity and virtue

Cresent moon, Nation ever ascendant

Five stars—

Democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Today the flag unfurls for you!

To the man, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

I am perpetually indebted.

I shall carry forth love for my country

Until my own death bed.

Without you,

No freedom, no headway.
There would not be

We would not be.

Praises to you, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.

We will miss you.

Your examples and inspirations

To us shall never part.

Praises to you.

You shall live forever in our hearts.

Until we meet again

On the other side of the veil

We shall echo your lessons

To generations without end.

Thank you for your devoted existence
The father of us all,

We love you,

Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.
