Real Life Inspiration: The Man Who Refused To Go Down In Defeat

Koh Tiam Teck’s life story is like a fairy tale about how the human spirit can triumph over adversity – again and again.

Born in a poor family where he had to literally lived from hand to mouth, he used the experience to help mould himself to become a stronger and more resilient person.

He did not cow to poverty.

At the age of 13, he had to drop out of school to make a living and to help support his family.

But he did not allow his lack of formal education to stop him from pursuing a life of ongoing learning, changes and improvements.

During the 1976 economic downturn, his family business was almost wiped out.

He worked with the other members of the family and together, they broke new grounds to strengthen the business.

When the financial crisis caused a slump in the business, he worked very hard, came out with better ideas, and persevered to overcome the challenges that came one after another.

His fighting spirit, single-mindedness, and his ability to execute plans and fulfill visions turned his company from the brink of death to life.

What I like about Tiam Teck when I first met him was not just his resilience but also his humility.

There was no air about him, considering the fact that he was a highly successful entrepreneur.

He lives simply and is known for being frugal and thrifty.

But when it comes to donating to a good cause, he is very generous.

He gives back to society on a regular basis, seeking no rewards or recognitions for himself.

Koh Tiam Teck is inspiration personified and is a model for everybody.

He strives to improve the lives of his loved ones and the people around him and in society.
