The Right Force Awakens…

by Patrick Liew on December 28, 2015

The saddest part of the movie, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” happened when Kylo Ren cold-bloodedly killed somebody who should be close to him (The name will not be disclosed so as not to spoil the fun).

It was an act against humanity or what humanity should be. But then again, history has shown us that heinous crimes can happen and have happened again and again.

For example, we see evil characters in different corners of the Net.

Sometimes, these dark “Knights of Ren” are camouflaged in the name of freedom of speech. They may be protected by policies against discrimination.

It’s no longer preposterous to believe that nobody is spared from potentially joining the Dark Side.

All it takes is for evil to take control of you.

Usually the seed of evil is planted in an almost innocent way and then it takes root and grows in intensity and strength until it becomes your master.

First, it may start as a negative thought. You harbour the thought in your mind and feed on it thinking that you can manage it and keep it under control.

Then, it grows to become a simple and probably not even a deliberate act of misdeed.

Instead of taking full responsibility for it and putting to right the wrong that has been committed, you put the blame on someone else and justify for the wrongdoing.

You sweep it under the cobweb of your mind – thinking that it will lie there, dormant and benign.

Unfortunately, negative thoughts produce negative emotions.

In the same way, negative emotions contribute to negative thoughts.

They continue to feed on each other and germinate through more negative thoughts, feelings, words, and actions.

Eventually, the desire for negativity can be fed but it can never be satisfied. In fact, it will become hungrier and it will grow until it becomes bigger than you.

Over time, if left unchecked, it can grow to become a demon – as it unleashes a reign of unhappiness and dissatisfaction.

Gradually, it may even devour you.

In an earlier episode of the Star Wars story, Luke Skywalker fought with his father, the evil Darth Vader.

Luke was led by his anger as he overpowered Vader. He controlled his debilitating emotion at the eleventh hour because he realised that if he didn’t control himself, he would suffer the same fate as his father.

Luke became a full-fletched Jedi, and he helped the Rebel Alliance to defeat and  destroy the second Death Star.

Just as in the movie, you need a stronger and bigger force to stand with and back you.

You need to stand with our Creator who leads the forces of good against evil.

If you use human strengths, you will only achieve what humans can do.

However, if you tap on God’s resources, you tap on a powerful Force.

With His help, the battle against evil should and must continue in your life.

May His Force be with you.
