The Road To Financial Freedom

by Patrick Liew on August 25, 2015

I’m getting ready to speak to a group of passionate students who are hungry to learn about financial investment.
For the longest time, I’ve been providing such a service pro bono and as part of my contribution to society.

Since about two years ago, my friends organized these financial investment seminars for me. They told me that if the students don’t pay for the seminar, they’ll not be as committed and enthusiastic about learning and taking massive action.

I feel really bad about charging students for the learning experience.

With the small fees the organizer paid me, I started to hire one, then two, and then three executives and other part-time staff, and then eventually I had a small team to support the students.

This team operated from a small office to:

– organize ongoing trainings,

– provide regular updates,

– respond to questions about investment,

– arrange for experts and developers to teach the students,

– research and develop more materials,

– teach students how to manage their investment portfolio,

– organize a multi-speaker convention,

– and arrange further support and services for investment.
For all these additional services, we have not charge the students a single cent so far.

Therefore, there is no guarantee that we will continue to run the training. We may not provide the follow up services forever.

As an entrepreneur, I have to say this is not much of a business. A social enterprise perhaps?

Fortunately, I don’t have to teach for a living. I teach because I love to teach and not because I have to teach.

However, having said all that, I have to say that it has been a purposeful and fulfilling experience.

By being a teacher, mentor and coach, I have learned lots from the students and throughout this learning journey.

I trust our students are appreciative of what we are doing for them.

More importantly, if they are appreciative, they will take massive action to improve their financial position and achieve financial freedom.

In accordance with our understanding, they will happily and generously donate a part of their profit to a good cause.
In that way, we can make the world a better home.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.
