Who Wins In An Argument?
Many of my friends know that I love a good debate.
Hopefully, after an intellectual argument, the other party and me would be wiser for it.
Lessons learned during the interaction can help us improve our mindset, performance and results.
In the process of discussing with different people, I learned long ago that it’s hard to win an argument.
If you win an argument with a friend, he may not want to draw closer to you and he may even end the friendship.
If you win an argument with a family member, it may weaken the bond with that person and affect the family relationship.
If you win an argument with your lover, she may not love you as much, and may even walk out of your life.
If you win an argument with a customer, it may affect the relationship with the customer, and cause you to lose the customer and his future business.
If you win an argument with your boss, he may not take it well. Prospects of your career and wage increase may become dimmer.
If you win an argument with an acquaintance or a total stranger, he may get angry with you and retaliate in a negative way.
Therefore, pick the right person, place and time to engage in a healthy debate.
At the end of the debate, thank the other party for spending time and effort with you.
Do everything possible to ensure that the other person does not lose face.
And feel less respected and important because of the discourse.
When you don’t seek to win an argument, you may just be the true winner.
