Being Happy At Work

by Patrick Liew on June 15, 2011

I have an article from The Straits Times, dated May 30, 2011 sitting on my table for awhile. I felt sad reading it.

According to a survey conducted by Lumesse, Singapore ranked last in three areas of employees attitude – ‘least enjoy going to work’, ‘least loyal’ and ‘least supportive workplace’.

According to the report, 91 percent of Singaporeans do not look forward to going to work every day. In addition, only 21 percent thought that they have a positive and supportive workplace.

It’s sad because other than sleeping, we are going to spend the most part of our adult life at work.

As the CEO of the company, I will take full responsibility for the job satisfaction level of my staff and salespersons.

As an employee, I feel every one of us can do our part to improve the working environment. I need to first ensure I am not guilty of generating any negativity such as rumours, backbiting and politicking.

Then, I can help to build up a more positive environment. I can spread empowering values such as love, kindness, graciousness and compassion.

If all of us do our part, we will be happier at work. Singapore will not be the worst of the lot again.

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

Life is FUNtastic!

Question: How can we enjoy our work?
