International Women’s Day, Tuesday, 8 March 2016

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I want to thank and salute women all over the world and in particular, my wife, mother, godmother, and daughters.

Without women, no man can exist, let alone achieve and enjoy many things in life. We owe to women much more than we can ever repay in our lifetime.

Women deserve all the love, kindness and graciousness in every sphere of society.

Unfortunately, despite advancements in knowledge, science and technology, women continue to face many disadvantages. They have to make many sacrifices to find their places under the sun.

Moreover, the sad truth is that there are all kinds of abuse against women in many parts of the world. These crimes remain one of the major social diseases.

Every violence against woman erodes the fabric of society and causes the world to be a darker place. It undermines humanity and corrodes the soul of life.

I call upon all fellow humans to speak up and take positive, prompt and proactive responses against these abuses and crimes.

Let’s help women enjoy not just equal rights but also equal opportunities and access to opportunities in life.

Let’s put an end to any abuse against any woman. We must not tolerate any tolerance for such abuse.

Let’s help expand their potential, pursue their passion in life, and optimise their contribution to their loved ones, communities, workplaces and society.

The time to improve our attitude and behaviour towards women starts from right where we are and right now.
