Living A FUNtastic Life (Part 19)

by Patrick Liew on August 24, 2011

Every morning, I write a short Love Note to my loved ones, colleagues, and friends.

It is also posted on Social Media for whoever out there in cyberspace that wants to read the reflections of a 200-year old dinosaur (T-Rex Species).

I wish each and every one of you a FUNtastic life.

There are people who asked me for the meaning of the self-coined word, ‘FUNtastic.’

I hesitate to define FUNtastic.

By defining it, I will limit its meaning. I will prevent it from taking on a life of its own to include new and positive meaning, significance, and contributions.

Years ago, I attended a lecture by Mr. Victor Frankl, a brilliant psychiatrist who survived the Holocaust.

Despite going through intense suffering, he managed to find meaning in his experience. He developed Logotherapy, a new technique to help people who are going through emotional difficulties in their lives.

During the lecture, a participant asked him, “Dr. Frankl, please define meaning.”

His short reply was, “Define ‘define.’”

I face the same challenge in defining ‘FUNtastic.’

However, if I have to do it, I like to offer you four dimensions for living a FUNtastic life.

Purpose

I believe our Creator has designed each one of us for a special purpose. I need to pursue and fulfill my highest calling during my journey in life.

Priority

In the process of living life, there are many things I need to do. At the end of my life, I want to be able to say I have fulfilled them.

To do so, I need to major on the majors. I need to focus on the most important things and not just the urgent things.

I need to do everything I can to ensure that I am moving in the right direction to fulfill my calling.

Passion

Whatever I choose to do, I want to do it as my act of gratefulness to our Creator. I want to be thankful for the life that He has given to me.

I want to treasure every area of my life. I want to love everything that I do and be absolutely passionate about it.

I want to be able to live every moment as the best moment.

I also want to also live it as if it is the last moment of my life.

I want to enjoy every single moment of my life.

Performance

As I have only one life to live and it is not a dress rehearsal, I want to live it to the best of my abilities.

I believe our Creator has given all of us unique gifts, talents, and strengths. I want to leverage on them to excel and to live life to the fullest.

To help me to excel, I want to apply a combination of four basic strategies:

  • Start doing what I need to do,
  • Stop doing what I should not do,
  • Do more of what is the right thing to do, and
  • Do less of what is not the right thing to do.

If there is a formula for a FUNtastic life, it will be based on the above dimensions.

Purpose + Priority + Passion + Performance = FUNtastic Life

I want to work with our Creator to not only live life but to enjoy an overflow of life.

I want to lay claim on His promise that He has not only given me the gift of life, but also an over abundance of life.

FUNtastic!

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.
