Reading For Life (Part 2)

by Patrick Liew on September 12, 2011

I am literally surrounded by books.

I have books in my car. There are also books all over my office.

If you go to my house, you will find lots of bookshelves filled with books. I also have books in the cupboards and in every nook and corner.

I do not lend any of my books because they are seldom returned.

I know because I have tons of them that have not been returned to the owners – just kidding. Ha!

I am grateful to have discovered the blessing of reading. It started as a tool to improve myself but today, it is almost pure joy.

I will not go anywhere without a book – that would be my idea of being in.

Even when I need to take a break and hide from the world which I’m doing right now – I will have books as my companion.

I cannot start the day right without reading. And I cannot end the day right without reading some ‘bedtime stories.’

Reading transports me out of my world.

It gives me freedom to roam the expanse of time, space, and history – and I can still feel at home.

Reading helps me to have a helicopter view of almost every knowledge, story, idea and experience.

It helps me to probe into the deepest recess of some of the wisest persons. I can walk where they have walked and go where they have gone.

As a person who is not smart, reading helps me to tap on other people’s expertise. It triggers concepts and ideas that can help me see more clearly on my journey in life.

While reading, I make it a point to reflect on the content. I will craft my thoughts on the spaces of the pages.

When I learn a good idea, I will endeavour to rewrite it so as to make it relevant and applicable in my life.

Through reading, I can learn how to make full use of my life. It helps me to live life to the fullest.

Go4It!

I hope this message will find a place in your heart.

By the way, I have also recorded other reflections.

Question: How can we learn from reading and apply the lessons to become more successful?
